Observation:
We had an incredible sighting of KLM34 emerging from the forest edge and heading towards the lagoon. He climbed a sand mound near the broken road (bokkuwa) to observe the lagoon before crossing the road and moving to a small tree near the main road. Settling on the trunk, he kept a watchful eye on a couple of peahens and occasionally glanced back at us, the only viewers at that time. Suddenly, He became alert to something near the tree line by the lagoon/main road, where we had previously heard deer alarm calls. Shortly after, KLM37 appeared. KLM34 got down from the tree and began stalking KLM37, who retreated to the trees but then crossed the main road and climbed a Palu tree with KLM34 in pursuit. They engaged in brief skirmishes as KLM34 tried to attack the new male, who defended himself from the higher branches. Eventually, KLM34 climbed down and moved towards the lagoon. After a while, the KLM37 deemed it safe to descend and retreated into the forest. Observed together with KLM34
