The leopard was resting on top of the “Kumana Village” signboard. After some time, it climbed down and sat beneath a nearby bush. Later, it walked onto the Kebilitta Devalaya road and sat calmly in the middle of the road for a while. Then, slowly, it moved toward the forest in the direction of the Kebilitta Devalaya.

The leopard climbed a tamarind tree and initially slept on a lower branch. Later, it moved up to a higher branch and rested there. From time to time, it woke up and checked other branches to see if they were suitable for resting. Eventually, it settled on one branch and slept there for several hours.

The leopard stayed near the pond for a short while and then started drinking water. As there was a buffalo nearby, it drank only a little and then moved to the other side of the pond, where it stopped again and continued drinking.

Upon arrival at the location, the leopard was observed lying on the road. He briefly looked towards our vehicle and then resumed resting. After a short period, the leopard stood up, yawned, turned to the opposite side, and lay down again, indicating a relaxed and undisturbed state. Subsequently, the leopard got up and moved approximately five meters forward. He then emitted a vocalization lasting about five seconds. Following this, he marked his territory and continued walking along the road, passing close to the safari jeep, and proceeded in the direction of the Bowaththagalge junction.

We observed KLM31-Ritta resting peacefully inside the abandoned school premises in Kumana National Park. The leopard was in a relaxed, sleeping position, showing no signs of stress or disturbance. This location is known for offering quiet shelter, and leopards occasionally use these abandoned structures as safe resting spots during the daytime.
