Kumana Leopards

Reappearance of KLM17 Rohaka

Reappearance of KLM17 Rohaka

KLM17 used to frequent the south west of the park during 2018-2019 time, that is mostly around Eraminiyanwewa and Aluthgama Wewa.

In 2021 Oct Rishi Gunasinghe had an interesting sighting of him crossing the Kubukkan river to Yala Block ii, closer to Galamuna and that was it, haven’t seen him since then in Kumana.

Further justifying that these park boundaries and water streams are just virtual borders for them, he is now sighted back in Kumana after 2 years and 8 months. Sohan Wijesinghe has seen him near Villu on 24.06.2024. He looks weary and wounds can be seen across his face/head – clear indication of the battles he faced.

It will be compelling to watch how he will face off other strong males that now rule territories that he possibly used to dominate when he was back in this great park.
